May on the Water: Celebrating & Protecting Our Lake Eufaula

As the dogwoods fade and the Alabama warmth truly settles in, there’s no better place to be than Lake Eufaula. Whether you call it the Big Bass Capital of the World or just home, our lake is buzzing with life this May.

From the thrill of competitive fishing to the quiet beauty of a morning paddle, May is the perfect time to remind ourselves why we cherish this reservoir—and why it needs our help to stay healthy.

A Busy Month for Anglers & Enthusiasts

Justin Barnes

The bass are biting, and the tournament scene is in full swing. We are excited to welcome the Toyota Series back to Eufaula from May 13th to 15th. Whether you are competing or just cheering from the shore, it’s a great reminder of the world-class fishery we are lucky to have in our backyard.

If you’re looking for a more relaxed pace, our local parks are in peak season. If you haven't checked out the Kayak Eufaula program—recently recognized as the 2025 Innovative Program of the Year—this is the perfect month to get out on the water and experience our local wildlife and art installations from a new perspective.

Stewardship: Join the Tallow Takedown

Beauty requires maintenance, and this month offers a fantastic, hands-on way to give back. Invasive species, particularly the Chinese Tallow Tree, threaten the native habitats that make our shoreline so unique. We’re encouraging everyone to join the Tallow Takedown at Lakepoint State Park on May 16, 2026, at 9:00 AM.

* What to bring: Gloves, closed-toe shoes, and your community spirit.

  • The Goal: Restore native habitats and protect the biodiversity of our beloved lake.

  • Why it matters: Every Tallow tree we remove creates more room for the native flora and fauna that make Lake Eufaula so special.

May at a Glance: Mark Your Calendar

  • May 10: Treat the mother figure in your life to a beautiful lake-view meal at Lakepoint State Park.

Staying Safe & Responsible

Kid Kayaking with Lifejacket On

As we head into the summer rush, let’s keep safety front of mind. Whether you are boating, kayaking, or swimming:

  • Life Jackets: Always ensure they are U.S. Coast Guard-approved and worn by every passenger.

  • Leave No Trace: Help us keep our waters pristine by packing out everything you bring in.

  • Respect the Wildlife: We share this space with alligators, osprey, and many other creatures. Give them plenty of space and observe from a distance.

Our lake is our legacy. We at Friends of Lake Eufaula want to thank you for doing your part to keep Lake Eufaula vibrant, healthy, and welcoming for everyone who visits. If you would like to officially join FOLE, you can do that by clicking the link here.

See you on the water!
