This beautiful 45,000 acre lake is located on the Chattahoochee River, as part of the ACF River Basin. Its official name is the Walter F. George Reservoir and it shares its banks with Alabama and Georgia. It was formed in 1963 as the result of the construction of the Walter F. George Lock and Dam, located near Ft. Gaines, Georgia. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built the dam to provide flood control, produce hydroelectric power, create a navigable shipping channel and offer recreational activities.
Since the lake's inception, it has been known as a world class site for bass and crappie fishing. It also hosts several major fishing tournaments every year. From camping to kayaking, fishing to boating or just enjoying the wildlife, there's something for everyone!
