This beautiful 45,000 acre lake is located on the Chattahoochee River, as part of the ACF River Basin. It's official name is the Walter F. George Reservoir and it shares borders with Alabama and Georgia. It was formed in 1963 as the result of the construction of the Walter F. George Dam, located near Ft. Gaines, GA. The U. S. Army Corp of Engineers built the dam to provide flood control, produce hydroelectric power, create a navigable shipping channel and offer recreational opportunities.
Since the lakes inception, it has been known as a world class fishing sight for bass and crappie fishing and hosts several major fishing tournaments every year. (Check back for a fishing report that will be added to the site in the near future!)
